Nicsa's New ERG Impact Committee Delivers Practical Toolkit for the Industry

By Ali Lovett posted Oct 08, 2026

Inclusion in Finance North America's newest committee introduces a customizable framework to help asset and wealth management firms strengthen Employee Resource Groups, demonstrate business value, and share best practices across global markets.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) have become an important component of workplace culture, employee engagement, and talent development across the asset and wealth management industry. As organizations look to strengthen these programs, a central question is emerging: How can firms move beyond engagement activities to build sustainable ERGs that deliver measurable value for employees and the business?

Nicsa's Inclusion in Finance North America is helping member firms answer that question through its newest volunteer-led committee, the ERG Impact Committee.

The committee's first major deliverable, the ERG Toolkit, provides a comprehensive collection of practical templates, governance guidelines, and measurement tools designed to help organizations establish, refresh, or strengthen their ERG programs.

Developed with input from industry practitioners, the resource turns shared industry knowledge into actionable tools that support meaningful workplace inclusion.

The toolkit includes seven core components:

  1. Bylaws and Governance: Customizable provisions for ERG purpose, membership, leadership structures, decision-making, and succession planning.
  2. Leadership Role Descriptions: Defined responsibilities, authority, and suggested time commitments for executive sponsors, ERG chairs, functional leads, and other participants.
  3. Meeting Cadence Templates: Ready-to-use monthly and quarterly agendas to support accountability, strategic alignment, and consistent engagement.
  4. Communications Resources: Templates and guidelines for promoting ERG activities, communicating with members, and maintaining inclusive messaging.
  5. Budget and Event Planning: Practical tools for managing resources, organizing events, and evaluating outcomes.
  6. Business Linkage Tracker: A framework for connecting ERG initiatives with internal and external stakeholders and organizational priorities.
  7. ERG Measurement Framework: Suggested metrics and reporting tools to evaluate membership, engagement, financial stewardship, and business impact.

Importantly, the toolkit offers a customizable starting point for organizations at different stages of their ERG journeys. Whether a firm is launching its first ERG or seeking to enhance an established program, the resource provides actionable guidance that can be adapted to its unique needs.

Moving Beyond Participation to Measurable Impact

One of the toolkit's distinguishing features is its emphasis on connecting ERG activity to broader business priorities.

ERGs can provide opportunities for employee networking and connection while also supporting leadership development, talent retention, mentoring, community engagement, and organizational innovation.

The toolkit encourages firms to consider how these contributions can be evaluated through meaningful indicators, including participation trends, employee feedback, leadership engagement, program effectiveness, and resource utilization.

Rather than positioning measurement as a performance scorecard, the framework emphasizes continuous improvement, helping ERG leaders identify what works, demonstrate value, and make informed decisions about future programming.

For firms navigating evolving workforce expectations and competing business priorities, this approach can help position ERGs as sustainable contributors to organizational success.

Expanding the Conversation Across Global Markets

The committee's work also presents an opportunity to extend industry collaboration beyond North America.

The ERG Toolkit will be shared with Inclusion in Finance member firms in the UK and Europe, creating opportunities to exchange perspectives, compare approaches, and explore how ERG practices may differ across regional markets.

While organizations around the world share many workforce challenges, regional differences in regulatory environments, workplace cultures, organizational structures, and approaches to inclusion can influence how ERGs are established and managed.

By facilitating dialogue among North American, UK, and European practitioners, Inclusion in Finance can help member firms gain a broader understanding of effective practices and identify ideas that may be adapted across geographies.

This exchange also creates opportunities for the framework to evolve over time, incorporating additional perspectives and practical experiences from firms operating in different markets.

We invite asset and wealth management firms that are not yet involved in Inclusion in Finance North America to join the conversation.

Membership offers an opportunity to connect with industry peers, contribute to the development of practical resources, and participate in a network committed to strengthening talent, leadership, and inclusion across the industry.
