Celebrating Culture: How DPNA Member Firms Honored Hispanic Heritage Month 2024

By Nicsa posted Oct 16, 2024

Each year, from September 15 to October 15, National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. This period is a time to reflect on the profound influence Hispanic Americans have had on the history of the United States and the world. Many of Nicsa’s Diversity Project North America (DPNA) member firms recognized Hispanic Heritage Month with events and activities that foster education, cultural appreciation, and community engagement.

DPNA’s Industry Engagement & Events Committee gathered ideas from member firms reflecting the ways they celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and highlight Hispanic contributions within their organizations:

Allspring Global Investments

Allspring marked Hispanic Heritage Month with a dynamic lineup of events across several offices:

  • Cultural Performance: Celebrations kicked off with a vibrant dance performance by Panadanza Dance Company at Allspring’s Menomonee Falls office, showcasing the rich tradition of Latino dance.
  • Latinos in Finance Boot Camp: Allspring sponsored the 16th Annual Latinos in Finance Boot Camp in San Francisco, providing workshops and networking opportunities for students and professionals seeking careers in finance.
  • Culinary Celebrations: Allspring invited its employees to explore Hispanic culinary traditions through hands-on experiences with classes showcasing recipes from “Sharing Our Culture – Allpsring’s Hispanic/Latino ACG’s Cookbook.” The ACG also supported local Latino-owned businesses by sharing their Mexican cuisines.
  • Business Opportunities: The firm shared financial opportunities around this fast growing demographic by hosting a webinar showcasing the Growing Business Case to Invest in the U.S. Latino Market.

Fidelity Investments

Fidelity celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of interactive and educational events:

  • Trivia and Language Learning: Fidelity organized trivia challenges and released educational videos to teach Spanish words, promoting cross-cultural learning within the organization.
  • Hispanic Cuisine and Stories: Fidelity’s company cafeteria featured Hispanic dishes, along with stories behind the recipes, fostering a deeper connection to the culinary traditions of Hispanic cultures.
  • Art Appreciation: Employees were invited to participate in a virtual art collection tour spotlighting Hispanic artists.
  • Career Spotlights: Fidelity also hosted career workshops, highlighting Hispanic leaders who have navigated successful careers.

HSBC

HSBC embraced Hispanic Heritage Month through a series of events designed to educate, celebrate, and inspire. Notable activities included:

  • Cultural Immersion: The Chicago chapter of HSBC’s HLDC (Hispanic Leadership Development Council) started the celebrations with a guided tour of the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, followed by a cultural networking event.
  • Virtual Art Tour: In collaboration with colleagues in Mexico City, HSBC hosted a virtual art tour featuring selections from the HSBC Mexico City office collection. This tour was designed to deepen employees’ appreciation of Hispanic and Latin art.
  • Trailblazer Panel Discussions: The Miami and New York chapters hosted panels featuring trailblazers from various stages in their careers, from students to senior executives. These discussions will explore the personal and professional journeys of Hispanic leaders and share advice across generations.

These initiatives reflect the commitment of DPNA member firms to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, not only by celebrating the rich cultures and contributions of Hispanic communities but also by fostering learning and inclusion in the workplace. Through these activities, DPNA members are helping to create a more inclusive and diverse asset and wealth management industry.
