Download the Application

The NICSA/William T. Blackwell Scholarship Fund has been established as a tribute to Bill Blackwell's commitment to education and to recognize outstanding students of the NICSA family with financial support for post-secondary education.

Bill is remembered for not only his long career at State Street Bank in Boston and as President of the National Investment Company Service Association but also for the honesty and integrity that he displayed in his business and personal life.

Working together with Scholarship America, the Boston Foundation assures that the intent and spirit of NICSA and William T. Blackwell will be carried out and maintained. One of the oldest community foundations in America, the Boston Foundation is a public charity that provides support for nonprofit organizations.

Scholarship America, a national nonprofit educational support and student aid service organization, administers the NICSA/William T. Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.

Once recipients are selected, financial need is assessed to determine the amount of each award. Recipients who do not demonstrate financial need or whose parents choose not to supply the requested financial information will be eligible to compete for two honorarium awards of $1,000 each.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. All applicants will be notified in April of each year whether or not they have been selected to receive an award.

Awards
Scholarship awards range from $2,000 to $5,000. A maximum of $35,000 in awards will be distributed each year. The value of the individual scholarships will be determined by Scholarship America based on the family's ability to contribute toward the educational expenses at the institution to be attended by the student. Scholarship applicants whose families have no financial need or whose parents do not wish to complete the Financial Data section of the application will be eligible to compete for two honorarium awards of $1,000 each.

There will be no limitation to the number of awards granted to the children of any member company and no correlation between number of awards and amount of dollars contributed by any company.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes the NICSA/William T. Blackwell scholarship payments on behalf of the Boston Foundation. Payments are made in two equal installments on August 15, 2010 and December 30, 2010. Checks are mailed to each recipient's home address and are made payable to the school for the student.
